Did you know about the underground river in Adelaide's inner northern suburb?

There wouldn't be too many people across Adelaide who know about the hidden aquifer flowing under the suburb of Medindie and Medindie Gardens.  To be specific if you live along Dutton Terrace you will certainly know about this.  If you have basement or underground car park in this inner northern suburb then you will certainly be informed of what lays below your home.

Like all things when they are working there is no problem, but when they start to fail its when you will require a suitably qualified tradesperson to attend promptly.  In order to keep the water out of these car parks and cellars a pump will be required to run 24 hours of a day.  If for some reason it fails then you will need an electrician or plumber to attend quickly.  Another approach is to have these pumps regularly serviced by a licensed plumber in Medindie.

Mayfair Plumbing have been helping many of the residents in this elegant suburb of South Australia now for well over 20 years.  It is the experience and knowledge these homeowners have grown to rely upon and the word of mouth is what keeps the business growing in and around Walkerville.

In between our jobs you might occasionally see one of our service vans parked at the Mcdonald's in Collingswood right across from the ABC building on North East Road.  When you work around the clock sometimes there are not too many options for a bite to eat and in the late hours of a night there isn't exactly too many businesses open for a meal.

Can the temperature of my hot water service be adjusted?

There is a huge misconception amongest the community that a storage cylinder style water heater can be safely adjusted to a warm temperature setting.  Theoretically yes it can be, BUT it should not be!

Some people believe that by adjusting the water's temperature to a lower setting (perhaps 45 degrees) it will save them money on their energy bills.  Once again this is theoretically correct, BUT it still should not be done!!

A storage water heater whether it be electrical or gas fired needs to operate at a minimum of 65 degrees celsius.  The reason for this is that warm water can breed bacteria (legionella) which is airborne so when you are showering you are susceptible to this bacteria which for the elderly or young babies with weaker immune systems this can be extremely harmful.  If you have a hot water service installed by one of our skilled plumbers they will correctly set up your new system to the manufacturers specifications.  Once the system has been installed it should not be tampered with.  There are devices which can be installed on the hot water line to the home or business which will adjust the incoming temperature to the taps but still maintain a safe temperature in the tank.  By contacting us on the below options we can discuss all of these various options with you and ensure the correct systems is supplied and installed for you.

A suburb of Adelaide's inner south that's really punching above its weight

When we often hear people talking about the inner southern suburbs of Adelaide they quite often refer to places such as Unley, Park Side and Hyde Park.  A location not to far away from these beautiful parts of Adelaide that has really starting hitting the spot lights with huge property value growth is Daw Park in the council district of Mitcham.  It is only 8 kilometres from the city itself and with all the public transportation so close by getting in and out of the Adelaide has never been easier.

With many of the older properties situated on 1000 square metre plus sized blocks you will often find home owners renovating rather then paying stamp duty and relocation costs to move to another part of South Australia such as Clapham, Melrose Park and Edwarstown.

As licensed plumbers and gasfitters we quite often get asked to help out with various plumbing tasks, whether it be a hot water repair (chromagen, bosch, rinnai and rheem) or hot water installations (dux, aqua max and raypak), hydro jetting of a blocked drain, backflow valve testing, stopping a leaking toilet or emergency after hours requests there is no end of work for us and of course tradesmen in the area.

With constant speculation surrounding the repatriation hospital (shown below) this inner city suburb is one to keep and eye on.  The hospital currently occupies a large portion of Daw Park on the corner of Goodwood Road and Daws Road and if one day the hospital does close this land is certain to chopped up into small parcels and snapped up fast by eager home buyers who would like to live in this inner southern suburb of Adelaide.

High capacity hot water on demand, trust Raypak!

When it comes to high output reliable commercial water heaters there are only a handful of companies who provide systems that are designed to keep with the high demands placed upon them.  Brands such as Bosch, Rinnai and Rheem are synonymous in the field of commercial and industrial water heaters.  There is one other brand which is only known amongst those who are qualified to deal with high output boilers and that is Raypak.  Rheem own and distribute the Raypak brand across Adelaide in South Australia from there warehouse in the suburb of Cavan.  These commercial hot water services are found in locations such as hotels, food preparation centres, swimming pools, apartment buildings and hospitals to list just a few of the many uses that these high demand water heaters are used in.

Raypak hot water services can deliver up to 1500 litres of 80 degree water in one hour.  This process is achieved using large amounts of either natural gas or LPG and extremely large copper fined heat exchangers.  Depending on the desired use for the hot water coming out of these units the plant room can be set up with singular or multiple circulating pumps and large storage vessels so that the large volume of hot water can be delivered during peak periods.

You will find that not too many plumbers want to work on hot water systems in Adelaide and when it comes to large scale complex set ups there are even fewer who will repair, service and install these appliances.  Mayfair Plumbing and Gasfitting have developed a reputation for not only being one of a few companies who will work with these hot water units but a reputation for being the best hot water plumbers.  Our maintenance division can have plumbers dispatched to remote locations and we also provide plumbers on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  We understand that businesses don't just operate Monday to Friday 9am till 5pm so when something breaks down its most likely going to be at the most inconvenient time and your going to need a reliable company to call upon, that's the Mayfair difference.  For support 24 hours and 7 days of the week contact 1800 694 689 or email inquiries by clicking here

Should I get my pipes inspected with a camera in Adelaide?

Its a great question and one we quite often get asked, should I get my pipes inspected with a camera?

There are a couple of things you should firstly ask yourself:
  1. How often are my drains getting blocked?
  2. And who is the best plumber in Adelaide to perform this task?
It need not necessarily be an old home or building where the drain pipes are continually blocking up, it could be a new build or just a case of abuse causing the lines to repeatedly chock up.  So what we need to establish is the potential reason for the repeated blockages.  If its a new build then the chances are it will be due to building materials being placed into the drains during the construction phase and it is an older home well the chances are that the pipes will have cracks in them and therefore tree roots have made there way into the lines (very common in South Australia).

Mayfair Plumbing and Gasfitting offer a huge range of drain camera inspection equipment along with highly sophisticated location devices.  What does this mean to you the customer?  It means that firstly we can get to the source of the problem in all sizes of pipes ranging from 40mm all the way up to 300mm and in all types of material such as PVC, Clay, Earthenware, Concrete, Black Max, HDPE, Geberit, RCP, Rehau, Copper and Cast Iron.  The bonus of using the locator sonde inside of the cameras head while inside the pipes is that once we have located the source/s of the problem with the inspection devices we can then tell our clients exactly where the problem/s lie in relation to the above ground area and also the exact depth.  The accuracy of this equipment is to the nearest 10mm, now that's accurate!
An example above of the many varieties of drain cameras we use at Mayfair Plumbing and Gasfitting in Adelaide to investigate drain pipes across the state

This type of technology has been around for many years BUT not too many plumbers are using the best equipment money can buy.  By using cheap imitation equipment it gives false results and poor inspection images, overall a bad job.  Mayfair Plumbing and Gasfitting pride ourselves on continually re investing back into our plant and equipment and providing our clients with fantastic results at the same rates which others charge for inferior services.
We have dedicated staff who are highly trained and experienced which only work on locating and detecting plumbing problems so you know when you do engage the services of our staff that the person attending is fully licensed and trained in the field of work you are paying for, camera inspections of sewer drains.
